Annual Reports
Thanks to our deep expertise, foresight, and tireless dedication, we were once again able to make this year a success. Our 46th annual report provides you with all the details.
The annual report provides insight into all key developments and key economic indicators from the past year and highlights the challenges that the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken will need to address in the near future.
The managing director’s primary task in 2024 was the challenging task of adapting business operations to changing external conditions.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the attendance patterns of students and staff at universities have changed significantly. The increased use of online formats in research and teaching, as well as the widespread shift to working from home among staff, has led to a noticeable drop in the number of patrons at the Studierendenwerk’s dining facilities.
At the same time, inflation and a significant rise in personnel costs are substantially increasing the Studierendenwerk’s expenses. The Studierendenwerk Oberfranken faced additional financial pressures due to a change in the parameters used by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts to calculate its subsidy. It was therefore essential to offset part of the resulting shortfall in funding by raising the semester fee to €85.
The continued development of universities and the associated establishment of social infrastructure at their campuses will remain the defining issue in the coming years. As a result, new student housing is being built in Bayreuth, Kulmbach, and Hof to meet student demand for housing.
It is to be hoped that the State of Bavaria’s government grants to the Studierendenwerke will at least be maintained at their current level, ensuring that the Studierendenwerke continue to have sufficient funds to fulfill their responsibilities in the future.
I would like to extend my special thanks to all the employees of the Studierendenwerk, whose great dedication, exceptional expertise, and tireless personal commitment have helped ensure that the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken has been able to reliably fulfill its mission of supporting students and staff at all university campuses.
Through its work, the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken plays an indispensable and vital role in helping students successfully complete their studies. The Studierendenwerk will continue to do everything in its power to ensure that the motto “So that studying succeeds”—under which all German Studierendenwerke operate—remains a reality for students in Oberfranken.
Sustainability is very important to the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken!
